Pier 39 is one of the top tourist destinations in San Francisco. It is a "pier" full of shops, restaurants and special attractions such as 7D Experience, Aquarium of the Bay, San Francisco Carousel, the famous sea lions, and much more.
You can easily get to Pier 39 by public transportation, driving, walking or biking. The closest BART train station is the Embarcadero Station which is only 1.4 miles from Pier 39. No matter which transportation method you choose, the ocean views along The Embarcadero are absolutely stunning. For this reason, I highly recommend walking to Pier 39 so you can truly take in the scenery. You will also see Alcatraz Island and the Bay Bridge along the way.
In this YouTube video, I explain how to score one hour of FREE parking at the Pier 39 Garage.
Bonus! At 5:02, you can witness the aggressive behavior of seagulls as one seagull yanks a large piece of San Francisco sourdough bread from another seagull's mouth!
After the seagull attack, you can watch the adorable sea lions sleeping, stretching, swimming and playing.
